Film Friday: Family History Edition.

Here is a photo of my dad on his very first day in the U.S. He just got back from the airport. There will be many more photos of him posing next to cars in the years to come.

Here's my mom in the Philippines, and my parents with their friends. They had a goodbye party on the beach for Dad before he left for the States. They ate fish, drank beer, listened to records, played the guitar. It looks like it was a fun time. They look like a crew I would've liked to hang out with.

My dad's first battle with snow. Oh, Dad. If only you knew then what you know now...

Mom learns to drive a car. And how to be a mom.

I think this one is my favorite. It looks almost like a double exposure, but I think that adds to the charm. I just love that it's my family, my mom and my dad and his brothers and sisters, and their kids. Newlyweds and new parents. Living a new life. Younger than I am now. Learning to deal with the same grownup responsibilities and decisions that have been dragging me down all week. But still enjoying the simple things in life.

It's been a long one, guys. I'm happy it's Friday, and I'm happy looking at these photos. A few other things that have been getting my spirits up this week:

+ Talking to my sister on the phone last night, and knowing that in just a few weeks, she'll be learning how to be a new mother, too.

This song. Because it's truth.

+ My favorite flowering trees coming to life.

+ Chick-Fil-A for dinner. Oberweis milkshakes for dessert.

+ Lunch in the park, every day.

+ Making plans for the summer. For the future.

+ And this one:

  1. when my father (and uncles) first came to the US, they too posed by cars. in fact, there are pix dating back to when we were in the refugee camp Bataan of them standing around (or squatting) by cars. what up with that?

whatever heaviness is within you, i hope that you are able to expel it out of you. take care.

  6. When I first read this post I was touched by the photos, the life depicted; a fresh start, new responsibilities, expectant smiles. It was a wonderful introduction to your parents and the promise of something better. Then I just scanned the post of your nephew, loving the back and forth process of his tiny history in your life, and read this post again. How life comes full circle, new promise again, new life. Happy new expectant smiles of a perfect future. Just want to tell you how much it lifted my spirits today.
